The Captain is ANANTA's player avatar — you choose a male or female version — and the newly appointed leader of the A.C.D. Task Force, the anti-Chaos unit that has fallen on hard times. They arrive in Nova City with fragmented memories, an outsider handed the keys to a broken organisation, and an Esper whose ability carries its own name: the Infinite Trigger.
In combat the Captain fights with Chaos Liquid — living tendrils that pull objects out of the environment, yank enemies into range and detonate in area attacks. Like every crew member, they also draw on the shared loadout system: firearms from assault rifles to grenade launchers, plus whatever the street offers, from golf clubs to trash bins.
The Captain is the traversal benchmark of the roster: the only announced character with unrestricted swinging, web-slinging between skyscrapers on Chaos tendrils on top of the parkour, wall-running and grappling that all characters share. Developer material frames the goal simply — if you can see a rooftop, the Captain can reach it.
Narratively, the Captain is the spine of the campaign: rebuilding the fallen task force means recruiting specialists like Taffy, Richie and Seymour, navigating the official police of Lykaia Reign, and pulling at the threads of the meteor disaster that figures like Dila are tangled in.
The Captain has fronted every showcase since the game was announced as Project Mugen at Gamescom 2023, including the TGS 2025 playable demo — the full timeline is here. Still unknown: how deep appearance customization goes, and whether "Infinite Trigger" implies borrowing other Espers' powers — official material has never spelled it out.
